Information on Tax-Exempt Orders with Displays2go

What is sales tax exemption?

Sales tax exemption enables a purchaser to make tax-free transactions that would normally be subject to sales tax. Examples of the types of organizations that are commonly tax-exempt include federal, state, and local government bodies; charitable organizations; religious entities; and non-profit educational institutions. Tax exemption is applied for through the state's Division of Taxation and, if the organization is qualified, they are given a certificate that can be presented to retailers at the point of sale.

Sales tax exemption is available to U.S. customers only.

How do I place a tax exempt order?

Step 1. Create an account with Displays2go

To streamline the tax exempt purchasing process, we associate tax exemption status with an account to automatically deduct the tax on applicable future orders, as long as your certificate has not expired. If you do not already have a Displays2go account, you can sign up at this link:

If you already have a Displays2go account, make sure you have the email address associated with your account handy.

Step 2. Send us your state tax exemption or resale certificate 1 by email

If this is your first time ordering from Displays2go, send an email to taxexempt@d2ggroup.com and be sure to do the following:

  • Mention in your email that you have never ordered before, so our customer service team can create a Customer ID for you
  • Fully fill out your state tax exemption or resale certificate prior to submitting, and be sure to list D2G Group, LLC in the vendor/seller section
  • Sign and date your state tax exemption or resale certificate prior to submitting
  • Include the email address associated with your account (even if it’s the same one you’re emailing from) in the body of your email
  • Attach your state tax exemption or resale certificate as a PDF file to the email

If you have ordered from Displays2go before, you can find your Customer ID on any previous invoices or quotes. Once you have your customer ID, follow the steps above, but be sure to include your Customer ID in the body of the email.

1 Note: State tax exemption or resale certificate must match the state and order is shipped to, not the billing address of the order or the address of your business, if different. If you are picking up an order in person at our facility, a Massachusetts exemption is needed.

Step 3. Wait for confirmation, then place your order

You will receive confirmation via email within two business days that your tax exemption has been validated in our system.

Once your account has been validated as tax exempt, you can shop our full online catalog. As long as you are logged into your account, the shopping cart will not apply sales tax at checkout for valid orders.

You can also call our customer service team at 1-800-572-2194 to place an order over the phone. Please be ready to provide the email address associated with your account when calling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What if I’ve already paid for an order that should have been tax exempt?

First begin by following the steps above to have your account validated for tax exemption. You can let us know in your initial email if you have any previous orders that qualify for a refund of sales tax.

Once your account has been validated, we will refund any sales tax charged back to the original form of payment. Generally, refund requests are created within two business days of account validation, but the actual time to process your refund may vary depending on request volume.

Is there a time limit for receiving sales tax refunds for previous purchases?

We typically honor purchases made up to one year prior to your account being validated, provided that your business was eligible for tax exemption within the timeframe of your purchase. If your order was placed over one year ago, we may be able to grant an extended refund period. Please email us for assistance with orders placed over one year ago.

Can I mail you my tax exemption documentation instead?

Yes, but we do not recommend doing so, as it will cause a significant delay in the process. We do not currently provide a turnaround time estimate for requests sent via mail and strongly recommend that you email instead for the best experience.

I receive orders from Displays2go in two or more states — can I submit multiple tax exemptions?

Yes. You can attach them separately, or you may attach a multijurisdiction tax exemption form that allows for multiple states to be listed, if one is available to you.
